Gays welcome in the military

| AS the United States seriously mulls ending the ban on gays serving openly in the military, the Philippine Armed Forces yesterday announced that homosexuals are welcome to apply as the military is recruiting 6,700 men to replace those who have retired, discharged or killed in line of duty. AFP spokesman Lt. Col. Arnulfo Burgos said gays are welcome although they must pass all physical and intellectual tests to be admitted as trainees, and observe a code of ethics and proper decorum once recruited into the organization. “We don’t discriminate against any sector. Anybody who wants to apply and who fulfills the basic requirements will be accepted by the military,” he said. |
