Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista turned over 60 motorcycle units to the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) to help fight carnapping and crimes committed by persons riding tandem on motorbikes.

Supt. Nestor Abalos, chief of the QCPD’s District Logistics Division (DLD), said the Quezon City Hall turned over the 60 motorcycles to the police district during simple ceremonies yesterday.

Apart from Abalos and Mayor Bautista, also present at the turnover rites was QCPD director Chief Supt. Mario dela Vega.

“With the addition of more new motorcycles, we can better address the continued problems of riding in tandem and carnapping,” Abalos said.

The police official explained that policemen have better mobility aboard motorcycles and have a better chance of running after criminals.

At the moment, Abalos said that the QCPD is still currently studying how the new motorcycles will be distributed.

“The priority will be the Tactical Motorcycle Riders (TMR),” he said. The TMR is currently under the QCPD’s District Anti-Carnapping Unit (DACU).

The police official said that the other units that will also receive the brand new motorcycles include the District Traffic Enforcement Unit (DTEU) and the 12 police stations.

He said each of the 12 QCPD police stations will have its own TMR.

Prior the turnover of the new motorcycles, the QCPD had 104 motorcycles mostly with the DTEU and 24 with the TMR.
