No condoms on love day
THE Department of Health won’t be distributing condoms on Valentine’s Day.
Health Secretary Francisco Ona said the DoH has no condom distribution program this year unlike the previous year adding that those who need condoms will have to get them from their respective local government units.
“So baka kailangang pumunta sa city hall,” Ona told a press briefing in Malacañang.
The Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines earlier called on the DoH to stop the practice of the previous administration to give away condoms on Valentine’s Day. Former health secretary Esperanza Cabral said the condom distribution program was part of the campaign to prevent the spread of human immuno virus which causes the dreaded Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome.
Women’s groups and other non-governmental organizations said they will distribute condoms if the DoH will stop the program.
Ona said the DoH will still be giving free condoms to the poor. He stressed that there is nothing immoral in the distribution of condoms.
“Depende yon kung anong objective mo. It depends on the objective of those who are giving it and those who are receiving it,” he said
